Why is ‘keeping your AGA on for the summer’ seem to be the thing this summer? We have noticed that unusually the number of AGA cleans we are doing is down this year. And the only real reason we can think of is is that because the weather is so bad. People are leaving them on as they don’t want to switch them off. Even though it isn’t that cold the general wet and stormy weather gives you a feeling of Autumn. So you still want the to be comforted by the AGA heat in your kitchen. That cosy feeling from the warmth of the AGA really does make a difference. So even to switch it off to get it cleaned will make a difference, making the kitchen cold and unwelcoming.
We in the Rogers household always keep our AGA cooker on. But really that is because it is a 30 Amp electric AGA it doesn’t cost that much to run. And the times we have had to switch it off we have had a problem with an element ‘going’. This costs us approximately £150 to get it fixed each time. So for us the AGA stays on! Even though it gets very hot in our small kitchen. We cope with it, opening the back door is the solution for us. Though of course we know from years of cleaning AGAs that the normal state of affairs is that most people will switch them off to ensure that the kitchen is so hot!
