Christmas Eve Boxes

By Sam Burton

In my house, it’s always been tradition to open a present on Christmas Eve, usually it’s Christmas PJs, or a Christmas movie. If you want to go all out, why not make a Christmas Eve box, the perfect pre-Christmas present, for a festive family evening.

The reason I love this idea so much, is because it seems expensive, but most of these items can either be cheaply made, or can be bought from a pound shop.

A Christmas Film

There are hundreds of festive films out there, if you think you’ve watched them all, chances are there’s another one hiding out there that you’ve missed!

A personal favourite of mine is The Grinch, although my family do not approve of me singing along!

Christmas Pajamas

Whether you prefer a two piece, or a cosy onsie, Christmas PJs are warm, comfy, and the perfect way to get in to the spirit.

A Christmas Mug and Hot Chocolate

Not a necessity, but nothing’s more homely than being cuddled up on the sofa with a Christmas film and a hot chocolate, or for a more adult evening in, mulled wine.

A Decoration for the Tree

If you’ve got an eye for crafts, making a Christmas Bauble or decoration should be easy. One of the easiest decorations to make is salt dough decorations, it takes minutes to make the dough, and you can decorate them as you please.

A Christmas Stocking

Continuing the theme of last minute decorations, why not have stockings at the ready to hang over the fire place together. You don’t need to buy a new one each year, you could always alter it each year, for example sewing on a new patch each year, a nice surprise on Christmas Eve.

Cookies for Santa, and Reindeer Food

Reindeer food is a simple and cheap idea, and I found it to be more magical than putting out carrots! Simply mix together a bag of dry oats glitter, sprinkle it over the lawn. The glitter highlights your lawn so that the reindeer know where to land, and then they eat the oats!

Santa’s Magic Key

If your house doesn’t have a chimney, old St Nic might struggle to get in to your house to leave gifts. Leave Santa’s Magic Key next to a glass of whisky, and it will magically find it’s way in to his pocket.

How to Decorate Your Box

There are many different ways to decorate your Christmas Eve box, depending on how craft friendly you are, it could be as simple as a wrapped shoe box, or you could use a wooden box or crate, painted and decorated. Have fun with it, pound shops will more than likely stock Christmas stickers, a simple and easy way to finish your boxes.
